Dial 211 from any phone to be connected with a local or regional specialist. The specialist can access databases of resources available from private and public health and human service agencies, match your needs to available resources, and link or refer you directly to an agency or organization that can help, including shelters. Other referred services include food and clothing banks, health insurance programs, support groups/counseling, drug and alcohol counseling and rehab, work training and education, financial assistance, adult day care, home health care, childcare, after school programs, and suicide prevention.

National Runaway Safeline

Established in 1974, this service has served as a national communications system for runaway and homeless youth. It operates as an anonymous, confidential and free 24-hour crisis line staffed with experienced front-line workers. It averages 85,000 contacts annually with young people in crisis and their families, including phone, text, chat, email and new forum inquiries. Formerly known as the National Runaway Switchboard and the National Runaway Hotline, the organization’s mission is to help keep America’s runaway and at-risk youth safe and off the streets.

It is funded in part by the Family and Youth Services Bureau in the Administration for Children, Youth and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition, foundations, corporations and individuals provide private funding for the Home Free Program, which provides free Greyhound transportation for youth to return home or to an alternative living situation.
